Even though Wedderspoon does not have UMF or MGO certifications, it has earned an honorary spot on our list due to its unique features and markers such as the KFactor.

The propriety KFactor developed by Wedderspoon holds much significance in Manuka honey, and we will dive deep into it in just a second.

At Manuka Honey Organic, we pride ourselves on delivering quality products. We firmly believe in high standards, which is why this Manuka Honey is on our list. The reason for this is simple: Wedderspoon has received the Ministry for Primary Industries’ approval from the government of New Zealand.

Wedderspoon is New Zealand’s top Manuka honey exporter, running operations in the US and Canada.

With its utmost care for the bees and attention to high quality, the company hails two main Manuka varieties: KFactor 16 Monofloral Manuka and KFactor 12 Multifloral Manuka.

Here is our take on Wedderspoon KFactor 16+ Manuka Honey.

The KFactor 16 option is the superior honey as it has the highest concentration of Leptospermum scoparium which is the nectar from the Manuka plant.

This must be mentioned as the MPI body has formed a new definition for Manuka honey, which comprises different biomarkers and is independent from the UMFHA association that tests other Manuka honey brands.

The magic behind Wedderspoon is the KFactor methodology. It follows the MPI regulations for Manuka Honey and employs five ‘key factors’ that focus on the holistic qualities of authentic Manuka Honey.

Look at the infographic below to better understand the five key factors.

The five pillars of Wedderspoon KFactor are as follows:

It is also important to mention that the company is the only Manuka honey brand that meets the SQF (Safe Quality Food Standard). Wedderspoon was awarded level 3 of the SQF certification which clearly shows the level of attention to detail and food quality.

As you may have noticed, these standards are completely different than those of MGO of UMF certifications. To make it simple, the honey is tested for different markers, and different labs and regulatory bodies also test it. For more information on New Zealand’s MPI definition of Manuka honey click here.

We will discuss more on this later.

Here are some of the pros and cons of Wedderspoon Manuka Honey:

Here are the pros and cons of Wedderspoon Manuka honey.

✅ Non-GMO Project Verified, MPI Certification

✅ Raw and unpasteurized

✅ Traceable from hive to home

✅ Sourced and packed in New Zealand with the SQF Standard

✅ Free of antibiotics, glyphosate, and pesticides

❌ Not UMF or MGO certified

❌ Methylglyoxal and Leptospermum levels unclear

❌ Unclear medicinal value

We need to go back to the MPI standards to answer that question.

According to the New Zealand government, as of February 5, 2018, all honey exported from New Zealand must be tested to show that it meets the MPI standard to be lawfully labeled as Manuka honey.

This might be a little confusing, but fret not! MGO, UMF, and KFactor share many of the standards, such as from “hive to home,” Leptospermum presence, NON-GMO, chemical-free, etc.

Interestingly enough, we could not find the exact leptospermum content. We also could not locate the levels of other chemicals such as peroxide or methylglyoxal which are measured by MGO and UMF.

KFactor Standard
