The Amazon Manuka problem
Amazon is the most-used channel for Manuka honey purchases in the US. It is also where most counterfeit Manuka ends up. Because Amazon allows third-party sellers to list under brand-name listings, it is not uncommon for a UMF-labelled product page to ship a jar that is unrelated to the brand or has been substituted.
The brands on this list are sold via their authorized brand storefronts on Amazon. Buying from those specific listings (rather than third-party "fulfilled by Amazon" copies) reduces but does not eliminate counterfeit risk.
How to verify a Manuka jar from Amazon is real
Three checks rule out the obvious counterfeits:
- UMF licence number on the label. UMFHA-licensed brands print a 4-digit licence number. Cross-reference at umf.org.nz.
- Origin: New Zealand. Manuka must be from New Zealand to carry UMF certification. Some Australian Manuka honey is real Manuka but is not UMFHA-certified.
- Batch / lot number. A jar that does not allow lot-number lookup at the brand's website has been removed from the brand's authentication chain.

What you actually get on Amazon vs direct

If the brand is the same and the UMF / MGO grade is the same, yes. The supply chain may differ (some brands distribute via different channels) but the product itself is identical.
Why are some Manuka jars cheaper on Amazon than on the brand's website?
Promotional pricing, Amazon-specific bundles, and clearance of older batches. Older batches are not "expired", Manuka has a multi-year shelf life, but they may be priced down to make room for newer stock.
